Beyond Triple-A gaming; Indie

Triple-A games and Indie games, two-sides of the same coin, but the latter is seldom flipped to vision.

Your common Triple-A games are produced by big budget companies such as EA, Bethesda, Valve, Activision, and the list goes on.
Basically, they are the games you see being played by the majority of gamers, they are built that way, to be pumped up in public and gain a following.

The Call of Duty series is one big example of a triple a game, a household name when it comes FPS (First Person Shooter) games.

But to a non-gaming person, the gaming gig could seem a little bit surface level, shooter games, big blockbusters, and badass characters.

Well, that's because you/they're only looking at the surface'

Enter, the other side of the coin; Indie

Indie or got its name from the word 'independent', they are games that weren't produced by a big company nor funded by it, they are games from the gaming community them selves who happen to have a knack for game design.

Independent game developer who create games usually without funding, only their computer, a cup of coffee, and an itch to tell a story.

Here's a familiar image:

Yes, Minecraft started as an indie game developed by Markuss Person (better known as notch)
before being sold to Microsoft back in September of 2014.

Indie games are not bound by restrictions, they are usually in the frontline of the gaming industry, pushing the boundaries of what gaming could be, constantly innovating with every game that gets uploaded.
Minecraft is an example; an open sandbox game in wherein you can do whatever you want. Simple idea, but that's where its charm is found.

To indie-developers, games are not just casual, good pass times, for them, games can be a narrative tool, a medium to tell story, a blank canvass for art.
Unlike movies where you experience the movie as a third person; an observer. Games can put you directly into the protagonist's shoes, you decide for them and control them, essentially. It's a unique experience.

Games like Limbo, a 2D platformer where you explore a monochromatic world full of danger in search for your sister, the doesn't tell you where you are and why you do what you do, which leaves the games open for interpretation.

Same goes for the game Inside, produced by the same developers PlayDead, a 3D platformer with an open ended story

Some games though are explicit with the message they deliver, and a common theme between them all is the enemy within, you.

Mental issue is touchy subject, but these games illustrated the problem so good that they should count as therapy, they can even be your catharsis.

Superliminal is a walking simulator that encourages you deal with multiple puzzles by looking at it from a new perspective; literally!
It is set in a non-eucledian world which mean it is not bound by any realistic physics, big objects can be shrinked down to size by moving away from it, the same concept applies otherwise. It could get really trippy and your mind best be prepared for the amazingly made puzzles.

yeah, total mindf*ck

Games are an amazing narrative device and when done right it will be nothing short but life changing, indie-developers are people who make games just because , either they are made out of boredom or pure passion to tell a story, which can lead to a mixed bag of fun, and mind boggling stuff.
